Packing List for Peace Corps Service in Jamaica

Here is the list of what I actually took to Jamaica for Peace Corps Service. A few things were on my list originally but did not make it into my bags. The bags I took ended up weighing 90 lbs accumulatively and the total weight limit was 100 lbs.

Clothes (About 10 coordinated work outfits)

  • 1 pairs jeans
  • 1 pair lightweight water resistant work pants
  • 1 pair sweatpants
  • 2 dress pants (black slacks)
  • 4 skirts (at or below the knee)
  • 1 pair of basketball shorts (to the knee)
  • 4 dresses (1 dressy / church & swearing in dress & 1 cocktail dress)
  • 1 sweater
  • 1 light jacket
  • 1 blazer
  • 5 button up shirts
  • 5 T-shirts
  • 1 tank-top
  • 2 undershirts
  • 1 one piece swimsuit
  • 1 two piece swimsuit
  • 18 pairs of underwear (quick dry type)
  • 14 pairs socks (thin socks)
  • 3 sport bras
  • 3 bras
  • Durable belt
  • Wide brimmed hat
  • 3 bandanas (great for dabbing off sweat)
  • Raincoat
  • 2 pair sunglasses
  • Jewelry (in a little jewelry organizer case)

 

Shoes

  • 2 pair walking shoes (to dry out between wearing)
  • 1 pair running shoes
  • 1 professional shoe (bring comfy ones – these are worn the most)
  • 1 heeled shoe

Toiletries

  • Samsung phone (for wifi, pictures, & games) – I’d only leave it at home otherwise

  • Nuun energy/electrolyte tablets (for when you need a quick little caffeine and/or electrolyte boost)
  • Packing Cubes to organize clothes in bags

  • Copy of vaccinations / vaccination (WHO) card
  • Prepare box of potential needs for PC service (e.g., textbooks, dictionary), office supplies (e.g., small stapler, rubber bands, paper clips, scissors, tape, pens, markers), clothes that didn’t make the cut for baggage but might be wanted later and could be sent by mail.
